When did I have that "Ah HA!" moment with Doorfly.com, well it all stated when....

My husband and I were in the market to buy a home.  As first time home buyers, neither of us new much about the process and did most of the research on our own using the Internet and driving around. His uncle was a qualified real estate agent and when we were getting serious about wanting to place an offer on a house, we called him. He was more than willing to help.

However, 2 days later, one of Brad's friends called and said he had just got his license and knew we were in the market for a house and wondered if he could help.  We thanked him, but told him who we were working with. He suggested that if we were willing to work for him, he would rebate half of his 'buyer agent' commission to us, and he told us how much that was...WE WERE SHOCKED!

We never realized that, first of all, Realtors could do that, and secondly how much that money would really have helped us. We felt committed to his uncle and did not switch, but secretly kept hoping he would offer us a rebate as well, but decided it was too awkward to ask. Of course that did not happen and we moved into our house wondering how long it would be until we had enough money to buy a kitchen table.

I was talking to my friend Jon on afternoon when he was over about this how there had to be a better way. Jon somewhat jokingly said "I don't think I should have to call around trying to find a real estate agent that will work with me, I think real estate agents should be "bidding" for my business, telling me what THEY will do for me!"

We laughed, then looked at each other and said "Hey, wait, why isn't there a place where we can do that?  WE could do that! NO wait we SHOULD do that!"

Since both of us are in technology fields, the idea started to quickly morph into a mocked up site, (literally with our laptops on that kitchen table we were finally able to save up and buy!) then real functioning site started to take shape and finally something that we both thought would work really well.

We started sending notes to our friends, especially those in the market for home buying and asked them what they thought of the site and if they would use something like this to find a real estate agent and negotiate the fees. Overwhelmingly, the feedback was "ABSOLUTELY! When is this going to be real, we want to sign up? You need to start this now!!!"

...and with that Doorfly.com was born!
